Xugana Lagoon is widely accepted as being the most spectacular permanent water site in the entire Okavango Delta, overlooking a permanent deep water lagoon. Xugana Island Lodge is situated on a rich private concession and takes full advantage of this magnificent site offering a classic water safari experience. Currently closed for a full rebuild, Xugana Island Lodge reopens in April 2025 with a fresh and stylish new face but the same lovely atmosphere and sense of place.

Xugana Island Lodge lies on the beautiful and game rich Shinde concession in the eastern Okavango. The land is a maze of lagoons, channels and pretty palm islands. With access to large tracts of dry land it can offer very productive game viewing too. It is one of the very few camps able to offer water activates year round, as well as walking and game drives. Whatever the time of year- Xugana Island Camp offers a quintessential Okavango experience.

Xugana Island Lodge accommodates just 16 guests in 8 large raised reed and thatch lagoon facing chalets, with en-suite facilities and private viewing decks situated on the shaded fringe of the island. There is a strong sense of being a world away from everyday life here- it is a haven of peace and tranquillity- apart from the honking hippos!

An open boma and al fresco dining area overlooks the expanse of pristine water that makes up the permanent Delta. The lounge, bar and dining areas are set back under an Ebony and African Mangosteen tree canopy in open sided thatched structures, and the swimming pool, located within the mature gardens in the centre of the island, Xugana Island Lodge is a perfect place to relax.

Exploring the Delta by motorboat or canoe (mokoro), combined with walking on surrounding islands in the concession, gives guests the chance to experience a classic Okavango Delta safari.  Bird-watching opportunities at Xugana Island Lodge are outstanding, and fishing for bream and tiger fish is also offered as an activity at the lodge.

Important Update: The camp is closed from October 2024 to April 2025 for a complete rebuild. The lodge is being rebuilt to offer a more luxurious and modern style, in keeping with the other Desert and Delta Safari property portfolio. Xugana Island Lodge will be rebuilt in the same stunning location- and retain the lovely sense of place and down to earth atmosphere which have made it such a popular Okavango camp over the years.
