Duba Plains Camp is one of Botswana’s top luxury camps set in a particularly beautiful corner of the Okavango. This premier camp lies on the vast, and wonderfully varied, 33,000 hectare private concession in the north of the Delta. The explosive game viewing here has been captured in a number of superb Nat Geo documentaries by the founders Derek and Beverley Joubert. A top camp in a stunning area offering a top safari experience.
Duba Plains Camp has just 5 tented rooms, beautifully designed in the style of the original elegant style of the 1920’s – luxurious but imminently tasteful and fitting to the natural surroundings. The spacious rooms are set on raised platforms made of recycled railways sleepers and offer lovely views of the game lively floodplains. Each room has an expansive lounge area, private veranda with plunge pool and en-suite facilities. En-suite bathrooms include indoor and outdoor showers and a decadent bath tub. Tents have ceiling fans as well as an air-conditioning system over the bed to maintain a comfortable climate for rest and relaxation. The two bedroom Duba Plains Suite is located alongside Duba Plains Camp and is the ultimate exclusive option for friends and families.
The spacious main guest area at Duba Plains Camp is set below the shade of giant ebony trees and includes a raised dining room, comfortable lounge, wine cellar and library. A fire deck serves as a central gathering point and reaches out over the delta.
Activities include morning, afternoon and evening game drives. Boating is also available, water levels permitting.
The Duba Concession showcases some of the most varied terrain in the Okavango, with palm fringed islands, expansive floodplains and a variety of woodland all typical of the delta. These diverse habitats allow the concession to be particularly rich in wildlife with the sheer volume of game considered comparable to the Maasai Mara.
Owned by the National Geographic filmmakers, conservationists and explorers, Dereck and Beverly Joubert, the concession features in many of their wildlife documentaries and prides itself on providing close exposure to extraordinary wildlife, from predators such as lions and leopards to elephants and buffalo. The concession is also known for interesting Kalahari species like Aardwolf and Pangolins.
While particular dynamics of the lion and buffalo interactions made famous in the Nat Geo documentaries are constantly changing, the area continues to deliver a top Botswana safari experience, enjoyed from a top luxury camp.
At Okavango Delta Explorations we specialise in crafting safaris to this unique ecosystem.
