Baines’ Lodge - Overview

Baines’ Lodge is a newly rebuilt, six-suite camp on a private concession along the Boro River in the Okavango Delta. Offering game drives, walking safaris and seasonal water activities, it provides a well-rounded safari in a strong wildlife area. Contemporary yet intimate, Baines’ Lodge only accepts guests aged 16 and over, creating a peaceful, adult-focused atmosphere ideal for couples and first-time Botswana visitors.

Baines’ Lodge - Full Report

Baines’ Lodge reopened in 2025 following a complete rebuild, and now presents a more refined, quietly modern take on a classic Okavango stay. Raised on light timber structures and linked by walkways, the lodge has been designed to sit gently within the landscape, with open views across the surrounding floodplains and a strong sense of space throughout. With just six suites, Baines’ Lodge retains a small, uncrowded feel.

Baines’ Lodge’s position within a 260,000-acre private concession bordering the  Moremi Game Reserve is a key advantage. This allows for night drives and guided walking safaris, which are not permitted within the national park itself, and adds an extra layer to the experience beyond standard game drives. The area around Baines’ Lodge is particularly scenic, with a mix of open floodplains, river channels and palm-dotted islands, supporting a wide range of wildlife, with generally low visitor density. Elephant, buffalo and giraffe are regularly seen, along with predators including lion, leopard and, at times, wild dog.

Activities at Baines’ Lodge shift naturally with the seasons. Game drives form the backbone of the experience and are productive year-round, while water-based activities such as mokoro excursions and boating depend on water levels and are typically at their best during the flood months. This flexibility makes Baines’ Lodge a reliable option across much of the year, without being overly dependent on any one activity.

At Baines’ Lodge, the main area is open and well positioned, with a simple, comfortable layout that takes full advantage of the views. A swimming pool sits at the edge of the floodplain, and there are a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces for dining and relaxing, including a firepit area for evenings. The overall feel at Baines’ Lodge is understated rather than showy, with an emphasis on comfort, good guiding and an easy rhythm to the day.

The six suites at Baines’ Lodge are spacious and thoughtfully laid out, each raised and angled to maximise privacy and outlook. Interiors are light and uncluttered, with natural materials and a soft, neutral palette. Each suite includes a separate lounge area, indoor bathroom with bath and double vanity, and a large outdoor deck with an additional outdoor shower and “star bath”. Air-conditioning and fans are provided, but the design also makes good use of natural airflow.
