One of the original Okavango camps, Delta Camp lies in the heart of the great Okavango Delta in a particularly scenic location. This is a charming camp with plenty of character, and a focus on tranquil activities, only mokoro and walking is offered here - no motorised activities. Built from locally grown reed and grass, this simple, eco- friendly lodge offers informative walking safaris within the Moremi Game Reserve – the perfect outdoor classroom.
Delta Camp is a rustic but well run camp offering a very affordable Okavango experience in a beautiful location. This is a very personal experience, all activities are private and therefore refreshingly flexible. It must be noted however that because walks are conducted in the Moremi Game Reserve by professionally trained and knowledgeable guides, they are unarmed.
The elevated lounge and dining areas of Delta Camp open up to uninterrupted views of the riverine Forest and great swamp area that lies before it. Constructed from locally sources natural materials, the lodge endeavours to have absolute minimum impact on the surrounding environment. Easily removable canvas is used where necessary and reeds and grass form the main component of the materials used to construct the Delta Lodge. An open bar serves drinks and refreshments throughout the day.
Handmade furniture designed by local communities is distributed throughout the lodge areas. Light is delivered by solar-powered electric lighting in the rooms and sundowners can be enjoyed on the centrally located sundeck from where wallowing elephant, hippo and crocodile are commonly sighted. Predators such as lion, leopard and African Wild Dogs have been seen in the vicinity of the lodge.
Chalets are positioned around the Delta Camp property in such a way as to take advantage of the incredible views and each chalet has an en -suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, a shower with a view, a variety of beds and areas in which to relax, mosquito netting and solar-powered electric lighting.
Accommodation is designed to take advantage of the many indigenous, old-growth trees of the island forest which means that it is not unusual to spot a tree growing through a roof or a floor of the lodge. No glass is used at all in the windows –supporting the low environmental impact that Delta Lodge has on the natural surrounding eco – systems.
Intimate walking safari experiences and mokoro (dug-out canoe) excursions are offered twice daily within the Moremi Game Reserve. Your personal allocated guide will impart his knowledge to you, the guest, on how to track animals, various types of animal behaviour and general knowledge of the fauna and flora of this astounding wilderness area that is the Okavango Delta.
The days’ activities can be organised to fit in with your desired schedule. An opportunity to visit an authentic Okavango Delta village is ideal for guests that have an interest in the cultural side of Botswana. Full day safari walks can be arranged at Delta Camp to include a picnic lunch and extended camping expeditions into the far reaches of the Delta can be pre- arranged with the lodge.
