Kanana Nyana is an intimate luxury safari camp set in the Kanana concession, one of the most scenic and game‑rich areas of the western Okavango Delta. Opening in October 2026, Kanana Nyana is the latest camp from Ker & Downey Botswana and their most luxurious to date. With just four suites and a maximum of eight guests, Kanana Nyana is designed as one of the most exclusive safari experiences in the Okavango Delta.
Kanana Nyana has a particularly lovely setting, surrounded by seasonal islands and open floodplains, dotted with palms, fig trees and ancient ebony. This varied habitat attracts a wide range of animals and birds and is one of the reasons the Kanana Nyana area remains rewarding throughout the year.
Each of the four thatched safari suites is individually styled and positioned for privacy, with generous indoor and outdoor living space and a private plunge pool. The design is calm and understated, using natural colours and textures inspired by the surrounding woodland and floodplains. The emphasis is on space, comfort and ease rather than formality, creating rooms that feel relaxed and genuinely welcoming.
The camp also offers a small gym and in‑room wellness treatments, giving guests the option to slow the pace between activities or enjoy some quiet downtime during the day. Central guest areas are open and informal, with separate spaces for dining, lounging and enjoying the wide views across the floodplains. While Kanana Nyana is the most luxurious camp yet in the Ker & Downey Botswana portfolio, it retains the warm, welcoming atmosphere and easy‑going hospitality found across their other camps in Botswana.
Kanana Nyana is operated by Ker & Downey Botswana, one of the most experienced safari operators in the country, well regarded for their excellent guides and consistently well‑located camps. Their long history in the Okavango Delta is reflected in the way their camps are run — professional and well organised, yet personal, relaxed and unpretentious.
The Okavango is a dynamic system, and the Kanana Nyana area changes noticeably with the seasons. As floodwaters arrive, usually between May and July, the land becomes a shifting mosaic of islands and waterways, creating a classic Delta scene. Importantly, the concession retains enough dry land to continue offering excellent game viewing during higher water periods. Outside of the flood season, the waters gradually recede and the landscape opens up, while wildlife numbers remain strong year‑round.
Because of this natural variation, water‑based activities in the Kanana Nyana area are seasonal and cannot be guaranteed. Water levels are often too low for boating and mokoro excursions between October and May, although this varies from year to year depending on rainfall and flood conditions. What remains consistent is the quality of game viewing, and the green season from November to April is often one of the best times to be here, with lush scenery, excellent predator activity and fewer visitors.
The Kanana concession is particularly well known for predators. Lion and leopard are seen regularly in the Kanana Nyana area, wild dog move through the concession, and hyena are frequently encountered, creating interesting wildlife interactions. Large breeding herds of elephant are another highlight, especially during the summer months, and plains game is varied and abundant. Birdlife is prolific, with impressive heronries and seasonal concentrations making this a rewarding area even for those with a casual interest in birds. While the Kanana concession lies within the wider Pom Pom concession (NG27A), the game viewing in the Kanana Nyana area is shared only with it’s sister camp, Kanana Camp, ensuring a low‑density and uncrowded safari experience.
Kanana Nyana is well suited to travellers looking for a high‑end safari experience that prioritises exclusivity, excellent game viewing and a strong sense of place, combined with experienced guiding and the easy, genuine hospitality that defines the best of Botswana.
