Karangoma Lagoon - Overview

Karangoma Lagoon is a private, guide‑led mobile camp in the Okavango Delta, designed for guests who value exceptional guiding, a prime location and a comfortable but unfussy base. Operating May–November, it offers sole‑use stays, walking safaris, seasonal boating and game drives, backed by a highly experienced, owner‑run team.

Our View

Karangoma Lagoon reminds me of the mobile safaris I grew up with in Botswana. It won't be for everyone, but that is precisely its appeal. With just three tents and a highly flexible approach, the emphasis is firmly on guiding, wildlife and exploring this remote corner of the Okavango Delta. For intrepid travellers seeking a genuine sense of wilderness, it is a very special camp.

Karangoma Lagoon - Full Report

Karangoma Lagoon is an exclusive, guide‑led mobile camp opening for the 2026–2027 safari seasons in the Okavango Delta. Set along a quiet stretch of the Spillway, the camp offers one of the most private and experience‑driven safari options in northern Botswana. Designed for guests who value exceptional guiding, strong wildlife areas and a comfortable but unfussy base, it delivers an authentic Delta safari without unnecessary frills.

Accommodation

Operating from May to November to coincide with the best of the flood season, Karangoma Lagoon features three guest tents (Double/Twin) and one tour‑leader tent. It is always booked on a sole‑use basis, with a minimum stay of three nights and a minimum of four guests or the equivalent rate. This setup allows for privacy, flexibility and a personalised experience suited to families, private groups and travellers who prefer exclusive-use camps.

Activities

Activities at Karangoma Lagoon take full advantage of its location and are led by highly experienced guides who know the area intimately. Guests can explore on foot with guided walking safaris, enjoy seasonal boating along the Spillway when water levels allow, and head out on game drives in productive wildlife areas. The emphasis is on meaningful, unhurried time in the field and high‑quality guiding that defines the overall experience.

The team behind Karangoma Lagoon brings many years of hands‑on experience in the safari world, including the development and management of some of the region’s most respected independent, owner‑run camps. This background shapes the camp’s approach: operationally strong, personal, knowledgeable and firmly focused on delivering consistently excellent safaris. We expect Karangoma Lagoon to become one of the most sought‑after new options in the Okavango Delta for travellers seeking wildlife‑rich, guide‑led experiences in a standout location.

How to get to Karangoma Lagoon

Access to Karangoma Lagoon involves a fixed wing flight to Vumura Airstrip, followed by a helicopter transfer to the Spillway and a short boat ride into camp. This arrival route highlights the remote, water‑based landscape surrounding the camp and sets the tone for the experience ahead.

Karangoma Lagoon is ideal for guests who prioritise guiding, landscape and atmosphere above unnecessary frills. It is a strong fit for families, private groups, return safari travellers, photographers and anyone looking for a grounded, authentic way to explore the Okavango Delta from a comfortable yet deliberately low‑impact base.
