Mashatu Euphorbia Villas is a new five star luxury lodge in the spectacular Mashatu Game Reserve, in the far east of Botswana. This little known area offers some of the best year round game viewing in Botswana as well as an wonderful arrange of safari activities. As well as day and night drives guests can enjoy horse riding, cycling, walking and the photo hides. This stunning new lodge will surely put Mashatu on the map.

The latest edition to the Mashatu portfolio, the Mashatu Euphorbia Villas, is a new five star luxury lodge set high on a cliff face in a forest of euphorbia succulents with breathtaking views of the river and plains below. Opening in June 2020, these stunning and innovative villas will offer the most discerning of safari travellers a unique way to connect with one of Africa’s most exciting wilderness areas. The expansive views over the Bojale River, the aquatic lifeline in this arid area of the Reserve, attracts a myriad of animals. Every villa affords views of the river and beyond – perfect for animal and bird-viewing. Elephant wanderings, night-time howlings, lyrical birds can be appreciated with complete privacy.

The design of the camp and 8 luxurious villas is inspired by the pod of the Mopane tree, the main food source for most of the wildlife in the area during the dry months. Every villa offers plenty of space for reflection and luxury to delight in. The spacious and secluded villas each feature an expansive outdoor viewing deck with a heated plunge pool, inside and outside seating areas, kingsized or two ¾ beds, ensuite bathroom facilities include two separate WC’s, indoor and outdoor rain showers and an indoor free-standing luxury bath. Each villa will have complimentary wifi.

Highly exclusive and personalised game drives are offered, with just 4 guests per vehicle. Mashatu Euphorbia Villas is also an ideal base for enjoying some of the other adventure activities available in the area including mountain biking and horseback riding.

Meals are enjoyed in the beautiful Boma-inspired restaurant while private dining for those looking for the most romantic or exclusive experience is also available.

Mashatu stands out for its incredible biodiversity, diverse terrain, rich vegetation and ecosystems which provide habitats for a wide-ranging and dynamic collection of wildlife. It is also worth noting there many important archaeological and paleontological found here.

It is no wonder it is called the Land of Giants. With striking rocky outcrops and plentiful groves of the enchanting Baobabs as the backdrop to Africa’s largest private reserve Elephant population the name is fitting. Add to that the world’s largest antelope, the world’s largest bird, the world’s tallest mammal, Africa’s heaviest flying bird, Africa’s “King of the Jungle”, the world’s fastest land mammal and one of Africa’s rarest predators, the African Wild Dog. Cat sightings are staggering. Birding enthusiasts will be happy in the huge varietyand numbers of different species– particularly during the summer migratory months of November-April – with over 350 species in residence. However, Mashatu delights all year round, every season enjoying distinct differences and specialities.

Getting to Mashatu Euphorbia Villas has never been easier with direct flights between Mashatu and Maun, Joburg and Mala Mala – offering the opportunity to combine the Okavango as well as Kruger for a spectacular safari experience. There is a small airstrip in the Reserve complete with immigration and customs facilities, so guests can easily fly in from South Africa and do all formalities on site without the hassles and queues found in larger airports. By road, most visitors come in via South Africa’s Pont Drift border. This is a short 2 hour journey to the Reserve.

The lodge does not accept children under 16 years.
