Mogotlho meaning “camel thorn tree” is an authentic safari camp with a striking location along the Khwai River in the Mababe region on the edge of the Okavango Delta. During the dry season (from May-October) this area sees large herds of elephant passing through with wonderful sightings along the river. Other animals include buffalo, zebra, giraffe as well as lions, hippo, leopard and wild dog.

Mogotlho has been newly refurbished and offers a very comfortable base to explore the Mababe area and further into the Moremi and Chobe. Shaded by riverine forest, Mogotlho Safari Lodge consists of 11 standard and 2 family tents. The spacious tents are all well-appointed along the Khwai River ensuring all enjoy lovely views of animals coming down to drink.  Each tent features a vast sleeping area, a private deck, and a generous bathroom with a large rain shower.

The main area is located in the perfect sunset location over the Khwai River and features a large thatched-roof lounge, library and dining area along with a vast deck with and outdoor bar, a firepit and an inviting swimming pool.

Activities include morning and afternoon game drives seasonal mokoro excursions, bush walks and village visits. Being in a private concession, night drives are also on offer, ensuring guests have an opportunity to experience the elusive and unique nocturnal wildlife.

Full day excursions with a picnic lunch into the neighboring Moremi Game Reserve and the surrounding Khwai area are possible and highly recommended.  These are prime game viewing areas well worth the full day out.

For guests interested in a more cultural interactions, Moghotlho Safari Lodge has a partnership with the local community of Mababe and village visits can be arranged to learn more about the people of this region who have lived side by side with the wildlife of the area for centuries.
