Set to open in May 2025, Monachira is a classic safari camp situated on the edge of the Monachira channel, a permanent waterway attracting abundant wildlife. The camp will have a relatively classic and traditional safari feel, in line with Machaba Safari's portfolio. Whilst game drives will be offered at Monachira, the focus will be on water activities and walking in this peaceful and remote area of the Okavango.

Named after the Monachira channel on which the camp is situated, Monachira will offer a sophisticated yet authentic safari camp feel. Set on raised wooden decks with views of the floodplains and wetlands around camp, this is a remote and peaceful haven within the Moremi Game Reserve. The Monachira channel is home to an abundance of year-round wildlife – including large mammals such as elephants, lions and leopard as well as semi aquatic antelope. Its location near the famous Gudigwa heronries – a nesting ground of thoundands of herons, egrets and storks – makes Monachira a birder’s delight.

Monachira is the latest addition to Machaba Safaris group of camps, and compliments its sister camps Machaba, Little Machaba, Gomoti Plains and Kiri.

Whilst game drives will be offered, it is the water activities and island nature walks that are the main attraction of Monachira. With access to this game-rich permanent water way, Monachira is one of the select few camps that will traditionally be able to offer year-round water safaris in the Okavango Delta. A motorboating safari offers a chance to spot aquatic species, birdlife and perhaps some bigger game from the river, whilst a peaceful mokoro through the water lilies at water level height provides a calming wildlife-viewing experience.

Monachira will have 8 luxury twin/double tents with ensuite bathroom, and 2 x 2 bedroom family tents, each with two bathrooms. Guest rooms will fan out on either side of an expansive main area tent with dining area, lounge, curio shop and fire pit for those pre-dinner refreshments. A pool near the main area overlooking the floodplains beyond completes the camp.

The camp will offer WiFi in guest rooms, in-room spa treatments and complimentary laundry service. Monachira accepts children of all ages.
