Shinde Footsteps

Shinde Footsteps, previously known as Footsteps, is a charming little bush camp accommodating just six guests in four tents, ideal for those looking for an intimate Okavango safari. Set on one of the Okavango’s finest private concessions Shinde Footsteps offers a fantastic safari experience in an area rich in wildlife across a varied landscape. With both wetlands and vast tracts of dry land on offer guests can a wonderful range of land and water activities.

Following a full rebuild and rebrand Shinde Footsteps opened in May 2023 retaining the authentic and intimate style of the original camp, but with more comfort and greater flexibility on activities. Once exclusively a walking safari camp, Shinde Footsteps now offers guests a full range of activities including game drives, boating, fishing, mokoro as well as walking.

Set in a prime corner of the Okavango, on the Shinde Concession, Shinde Footsteps has a lovely setting overlooking a permanent hippo pool and the sounds of the hippos calling make a wonderful soundtrack to your stay. No special training is required as the focus is on exploration and discovery – tracking fresh spoor each morning to reveal the night’s events. Guests will be in the hands of the best professional guides whose first passion is to interpret and bring to life every aspect of the bush.

This area stands out for its diverse habitats – dry Kalahari desert sands converse on lush wetlands and forests as well as open plains. This supports a fantastic range of wildlife including elephants, red lechwes, wild dogs, lions, leopards, hyenas, tsessebe, kudu, zebras, and giraffes. The attracts numerous bird species and some special semi-aquatic species such as sitatunga.

The Young Explorers Program hosted by a specialist family guide is offered at all Ker and Downey Camps, including Shinde Footsteps. This specially designed programme encourages families to discover the wonders of the African Wilderness together. The emphasis is on providing the family with engaging, age-appropriate activities on a flexible schedule whilst creating shared family memories to last a lifetime.
