Designed to complement its surroundings, Thorntree River Lodge has wooden decks encompassing the trees and is built right up to the banks of the mighty Zambezi. Two large tents with stone walls at the back and frameless glass stacking doors to the front, lead out onto an expansive deck overlooking the river. The most appealing feature of the Lodge is undoubtedly the wooden decks floating serenely on the waters’ edge bringing together river and land and creating an awe-inspiring romantic ambience that demands attention .A sunken boma, perfect for fine African cuisine dining experiences and an exquisite infinity pool with several sun loungers settled in shallow water around it contribute to this idyllic setting.
An array of comfortable chairs, sofas and beanbags together with a central fireplace and bar area make up the lounge area while rustic light hangings reach down from the reed-lined ceiling. An outside deck area offers comfortable seating and a wine cellar and separate spa, and gym are built in two adjoining structures which are designed to look like traditional Zambian Lozi huts imitating a traditional Zambian village.
Each elegantly decorated and air -conditioned suite features a private wooden deck and solid walls with a tented type roof constructed in such a way as to have minimum impact on the surrounding natural eco-systems. Teak wood doors and the use of materials such as copper and light wood add to the naturalistic feel of the rooms. Blue and white fabrics enhance the feeling of serenity. Two family units have inter-leading passageways that join the two bedrooms – ideal for families with young children as this lodge is unfenced and wild animals do wander into the camp especially at nighttime.
Kettles, coffee plungers, a bar fridge stocked with water, beers and soft drinks, and a drinks trolley with a bottle of wine, Amarula liquor and whisky are standard features in each room.
