In the Okavango their flagship property, Chief’s Camp is among the leading luxury camps in Botswana. In the southern Okavango, Baines’ Camp and Stanley’s Camp offer a luxury tented safari experience. Chobe Chilwero rounds of their Botswana portfolio, a luxurious boutique lodge in Chobe.
Sanctuary Retreats operates 16 camps and lodges in Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Sanctuary Retreats also offers luxury camping in Kenya. In addition to their African properties Sanctuary Retreats also operate cruise ships exploring cultural and ecological sites across the globe.
With a reputation through Africa for luxury safaris, Sanctuary Retreats’ Botswana properties are no different with an emphasis on guest comfort and wellbeing. Baines’ and Stanley’s Camps share the same concession and became famous for their work in partnership with the Living with Elephants Foundation, a charity which works to provide a second chance and safe home in the wilderness for elephants. These camps no longer offer the chance to walk with the orphaned elephants and their carers.
Sanctuary Retreats also own and operate Chobe Chilwero, set overlooking the herds of elephant and buffalo on the Chobe floodplains and bordering the Chobe National Park. Chobe Chilwero offers game drives into the Chobe National Park and boat excursions on the Chobe River. Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world and a World Heritage Site is only 90 kilometres away and can be reached in a day trip.
Sanctuary Retreats run a number of philanthropic projects in Botswana, in addition to the Living with Elephants Foundation they also run an Elephant Outreach Programme where children from the local villages interact with the elephants and learn more about the ongoing human wildlife confolict. They also work with Rhino Conservation Botswana to translocate 20 rhinos from South Africa to Botswana. Their Women’s Bike Shop employs local women in Kasane, Botswana.
