This itinerary features a rare combination of water-based wildlife experiences in the Okavango Delta at Xugana Island Lodge, big game viewing in Chobe National Park, a night on the Zambezi River on the Zambia side of the Falls, and the untouched wilderness of Zambia’s Liuwa Plain. Timed to coincide with the wildebeest migration, this safari offers exceptional value at USD 7,830 per person sharing, including all regional flights and transfers. With its blend of remote landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and intimate camps, this is a perfect choice for travellers seeking an off-the-beaten-path African adventure.

Your adventure starts in the heart of the Okavango Delta at Xugana Island Lodge, one of the region’s original water-based camps. Here, you’ll explore tranquil lagoons and winding channels by mokoro and boat, encountering wildlife in a truly immersive way.

Next, travel to Chobe National Park, famed for its dramatic elephant herds and rich diversity of wildlife. Enjoy classic game drives and riverfront views before crossing into Zambia for a night on the Zambezi River, just upstream from Victoria Falls. This peaceful interlude offers a chance to unwind and soak in the beauty of the river.

The final leg of your journey takes you deep into Liuwa Plain National Park, one of Africa’s last true wildernesses. With its vast open landscapes, dramatic skies, and thriving wildlife, Liuwa is a hidden gem. This departure is timed to coincide with the wildebeest migration, the second largest in Africa, offering a rare opportunity to witness this spectacle in a remote and exclusive setting.

Your stay at King Lewanika Lodge, the only permanent camp in Liuwa, is a highlight of the itinerary. The lodge blends understated luxury with panoramic views and an authentic connection to the land, placing you at the heart of one of Africa’s most untouched ecosystems.

Priced at USD 7,830 per person sharing, including all regional flights and transfers, these exclusive departures offers exceptional value. Whether you’re a seasoned safari enthusiast or a first-time visitor seeking something truly different, this itinerary promises an unforgettable experience across two extraordinary countries.

Day 1, 2 & 3

On arrival in Maun, Botswana, you’ll be met by a representative who will assist you with your connection onto a scenic light aircraft flight to Xugana Island Lodge, one of the original and most established water-based camps in the Okavango Delta. The flight takes approximately 25 minutes, offering breathtaking views of the Delta’s mosaic of lagoons and channels. Upon landing, your guide will greet you and transfer you to camp by boat - a peaceful introduction to the rhythms of this unique wilderness.

Settle into your spacious chalet overlooking the lagoon and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. After refreshments and a warm welcome from the team, you’ll head out on your first afternoon activity - perhaps a mokoro excursion through the papyrus-lined channels or a sunset boat cruise, perfect for spotting hippos, crocodiles, and prolific birdlife. Return to camp in the early evening for a delicious dinner and drinks around the fire under the stars.

The following day begins with a light breakfast. Morning activities may include a guided nature walk on a nearby island or a boat safari, offering a chance to explore the Delta’s rich biodiversity. The Okavango is a haven for wildlife, and while the focus here is on water-based exploration, sightings of elephants, antelope, and even predators are possible. After returning to camp, enjoy brunch and relax during the heat of the day - perhaps by the pool or on your private deck. In the afternoon, head out again for another mokoro or boat excursion, with sundowner drinks served in a scenic spot before returning to camp for dinner and storytelling around the fire.

Day 3 & 4

After a final morning activity at Xugana Island Lodge - perhaps a peaceful mokoro ride through the Delta’s channels, a short guided walk, or a last boat safari - you will return to camp for breakfast before your onward journey. At a time confirmed by your guide the day before, you’ll be transferred to the airstrip for your charter flight to Kasane, followed by a road transfer to Chobe Game Lodge, your base for the next two nights.

Chobe Game Lodge enjoys a unique location as the only permanent lodge situated inside Chobe National Park, offering direct access to one of Botswana’s most celebrated wildlife areas. Known for its immense elephant population and dramatic riverfront scenery, Chobe is a photographer’s dream and a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The lodge’s position within the park ensures a peaceful atmosphere, away from the busier areas near the gate.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with refreshments and introduced to the lodge’s facilities before settling into your river-facing room. Chobe Game Lodge offers a wide range of amenities including a swimming pool, spa, gym, and multiple dining areas. A raised boardwalk along the riverbank provides a perfect vantage point for spotting wildlife and enjoying the views - keep an eye out for the resident mongoose families often seen darting between the trees.

Over the next two days, you’ll explore the park on silent electric game drive vehicles and boat cruises along the Chobe River - two quintessential ways to experience this region’s rich biodiversity. Evenings are spent back at the lodge, enjoying delicious meals and sharing stories from the day’s adventures.

Day 5

After breakfast and check-out from Chobe Game Lodge, you will be transferred across the border from Kasane in Botswana to Livingstone in Zambia, where your next stop awaits - Mukwa River Lodge, a stylish and serene retreat on the banks of the Zambezi River. Upon arrival, settle into your beautifully appointed suite and enjoy a relaxed afternoon soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Mukwa offers a refreshing contrast to the bush camps, with lush gardens, river views, and warm, personalised hospitality. Later in the day, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in one of the lodge’s included activities - perhaps a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, a guided visit to Victoria Falls, or simply unwinding on your private deck as the river flows gently by.

Day 6, 7 & 8

After breakfast and a relaxed morning at Mukwa River Lodge, you’ll be transferred to Livingstone Airport for your flight to Kalabo Airstrip, gateway to one of Africa’s most remote and least-visited national parks- Liuwa Plain. Upon arrival, a representative from King Lewanika Lodge will meet you for the road transfer deep into the park, where vast open plains and dramatic skies stretch as far as the eye can see.

Over the next three nights, you will immerse yourself in this extraordinary wilderness, timed to coincide with the wildebeest migration, the second largest in Africa. Liuwa’s isolation means wildlife encounters are intimate and unhurried, with excellent chances of seeing wildebeest herds, lions, hyenas, and prolific birdlife across the floodplains.

Activities are tailored to the season and may include game drives, walking safaris, and explorations of the park’s unique ecosystems. Between outings, relax at King Lewanika Lodge, the only permanent camp in the park, where understated luxury, exceptional guiding, and panoramic views create a truly immersive safari experience. On your final morning, you’ll be transferred back to Kalabo for your flight to Lusaka, where you’ll connect with your onward international departure.
