Set in the exclusive Mababe private wilderness area, Mokete is a new tented camp offering guests an incredible array of ecosystems and high densities of predators and pray. This is an immersive and exciting safari region, well suited to the adventurous safari goer in search of impressive wildlife densities.

Opened in April 2024, Mokete is the latest addition to the Wilderness Safaris portolio. Mokete means “celebration” or “gathering” in Setswana, and its name speaks to the large numbers of wildlife that reside here, from Africa’s largest buffalo herds to multiple lion prides and countless elephants.

Due to its unique position in an exclusive wildlife area just to the east of the Okavango Delta and south of Chobe National Park, Mokete offers a private and remote safari experience in a previously unchartered safari region. The camp straddles Botswana’s Mababe Depression, a remote area characterized by a mix of savannah, woodlands, and floodplains.

The camp itself is chic yet relaxed, with tents branch from both sides of the common area, equipped with an open-air lounge, dining area, bar, and fire pit. Guests are accommodated in 9 spacious tents – each with an elevated seating deck and small plunge pool plus a living area, bedroom, and bathroom. Interiors are intentionally minimalist yet tastefully luxurious with a clean earth-toned color palette. A well-positioned cooling system lies above the bed to help with the wildly varying temperatures of the Botswana bush. Strong Tents are well spaced for privacy – connected by elevated wooden footpaths – and overlook the grasslands.

A massage therapist, and in-tent treatments are available as well as an exercise mat and light weights available for those who want to get some yoga or stretching in.

While many safaris in Botswana are accomplished over both water and land, Mokete is an exclusively land-based safari camp.
