Wilderness Safaris Camps In the Okavango Delta
Wilderness Safaris began in Botswana in 1983 as a mobile safari operator and has grown to become one of Africa’s best-known safari companies. Today its operations extend across Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania.
Despite this considerable growth, Botswana remains central to the Wilderness safaris story. Its camps occupy some exceptional locations across the Okavango Delta, Linyanti and Mababe, giving access to some of the country’s outstanding wildlife areas.
Some of Wilderness’s best-known Botswana camps occupy exceptional wildlife areas. Mombo, the company’s flagship camp, sits at the northern end of Chief’s Island in the Moremi Game Reserve, an area long renowned for its concentrations of wildlife and predators.
Elsewhere, DumaTau lies in the elephant-rich Linyanti, while the newer Mokete explores the wild, open landscapes of Mababe. Chitabe, on a private concession adjoining Moremi, is another longstanding favourite and, in our view, offers some of the best game viewing in Africa.
These camps are quite different in character, but reflect Wilderness’s strengths in Botswana: excellent wildlife areas, experienced guiding and a very established safari operation.
Wilderness has been operating in Botswana for more than four decades and has considerable experience of running camps in remote areas. Its own airline, Wilderness Air, provides connections between its camps and other safari areas, helping to make the logistics of combining different parts of Botswana particularly straightforward.
Conservation has long been an important part of the Wilderness philosophy, with tourism used to support the protection of wilderness areas and the communities surrounding them.
Mokete
Set in the exclusive Mababe private wilderness area, Mokete is a new tented camp offering guests an incredible array of ecosystems and high densities of predators and pray. This is an immersive and exciting safari region, well suited to the adventurous safari goer in search of impressive wildlife densities.
Mombo Camp
Mombo Camp is a flagship Botswana camp, one of the finest in Africa, offering superb game viewing and an extremely luxurious safari. With a prime location on Chief’s Island and some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the Okavango, Mombo is on the wish list of many safari travellers.
Little Vumbura
Little Vumbura is a Classic Wilderness Camp well known for its spectacular and diverse wildlife sightings. Shaded by a forest canopy, Little Vumbura camp offers a perfect all-round experience that affords the safari enthusiast the opportunity to enjoy both water and land activities on the concession floodplains. Six luxury tents with private decks boast incredible scenic vistas and together with a well - situated star deck make this particular camp well worth visiting.
Chitabe Camp
Chitabe Camp has some of the best game viewing in the Delta. This is no surprise as the Chitabe concession is bordered on three sides by the rich Moremi Game Reserve; thrilling predator sightings are common though the game viewing is interestingly varied. Chitabe is a classic tented camp offering a traditional safari with a strong reputation for excellent guiding.
King´s Pool Camp
Situated on the edge of the oxbow King’s Pool lagoon, this elegant luxury camp is set on the large and wildlife rich Linyanti private reserve in northern Botswana. The area is pristine and remote and particularly known for its impressive elephant and predator numbers.
Vumbura Plains Camp
Vumbura Plains Camp is premier Okavango camp with a stylish contemporary design. The 14 luxurious stilted rooms are divided into two camps and connected by wooden walkways. Panoramic views of the floodplains from the expansive lounge area are breath-taking. An exciting array of wildlife sightings emphasises the variety and density of the animal species here. Little DumaTau
Little DumaTau is the intimate sister camp to DumaTau, in the far north of Botswana. Overlooking the stunning Osprey lagoon, Little DumaTau is an intimate luxury camp with only four tented rooms, all extremely spacious with their own lounge, and individual plunge pools. With one of the most beautiful locations and fantastic game viewing Little DumaTau is sure to be among the best camps in Botswana.
DumaTau
DumaTau is a top luxury camp with a spectacular setting on the magnificent Osprey lagoon in the remote wilds of northern of Botswana. It has a prime location to experience the famous elephant mega herds and good all round game too. This premier luxury camp offers a sumptuous safari experience. The Osprey retreat features a wellness centre, gym and lap pool. Activities include game drives, walking and boating.
Toka Leya Camp
Set within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, Toka Leya Camp is one of the best safari style accommodation options in the area, a stylish sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the falls, with an excellent range of safari and adventure activities. Upstream from Victoria Falls on the banks of the Zambezi River lies Toka Leya – a luxurious safari camp named in tribute to the indigenous inhabitants that once lived here.
Little Mombo
Little Mombo is a smaller, more intimate version of its famous sister camp, and boasts just four luxurious tents. Renowned as “the Place of Plenty,” due to the myriad of species and large concentration of game, Little Mombo is one of Africa’s most sought after luxury camps. Connected to Mombo via a raised boardwalk, the camp enjoys its own facilities, including a dining area, boma, kitchen, lounge and swimming pool. A first-class safari experience.
Chitabe Lediba
Set on a game rich private concession in the south eastern Okavango, Chitabe Lediba is the smaller, family friendly sister camp to Chitabe, ideal for small groups and families. Chitabe Lediba is situated a few hundred metres from the main Chitabe camp, on the other side of the island and benefits from the same fantastic game viewing opportunities as the main Chitabe camp. This area is known for its high concentration of predators, game drives here are some of the most exciting in the Okavango.
Savuti Camp
Savuti lies in the heart of the Linyanti reserve in the far north of Botswana. Once dry, the Savute channel is currently running, beckoning you to marvel at this incredible ecosystem. Savuti is an intimate camp of seven raised tents and a low-water hide- a favourite playground for cavorting elephants. Explore on land or by boat along the channel before dreaming away the African night in a unique starbed, waking up to the dawn chorus of birdsong and surrounding animal life.
Qorokwe Camp
Qorokwe camp is a striking and contemporary styled luxury camp set in a prime location, on a private concession in the game rich southern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Wildlife is rich and varied here, with particularly good predator sightings. The eight large and comfortable suites each feature private pools and have been designed to maximise the impact of the Delta vistas. Sleek, minimalist water features mirror the water of the lagoon.
