For those looking for a classic and varied Okavango safari, we suggest the beautiful Kwara Camp. Set within a large and wildlife-rich private concession in the northern Okavango Delta, Kwara is a superb choice for a well-rounded and authentic safari experience. Its diverse habitats, ranging from permanent waterways and seasonal floodplains to open savannah and riverine woodland, make it an excellent year-round destination. With strong resident wildlife, impressive predator encounters and the opportunity to enjoy both land- and water-based activities, Kwara offers a truly complete Okavango experience at different times of year. The exceptional game viewing is complemented by a relaxed and welcoming in-camp atmosphere – ensuring a safari that is both immersive and memorable.

The Kwara Concession lies to the north of the Moremi Game Reserve and is known for its varied landscapes and excellent game densities. Wide open plains attract herds of red lechwe, impala, wildebeest and buffalo, while wooded areas and riverine fringes provide shelter for giraffe and elephant. The permanent channels wind their way through the concession, creating a mosaic of habitats that support a rich diversity of wildlife. This abundance of plains game draws in predators, and the area is particularly well known for sightings of lion, leopard and wild dog, as well as spotted hyena and occasional cheetah.

Being located on a private concession allows for a greater flexibility of activities, and Kwara Camp offers a full and varied safari programme. Guests can enjoy morning, afternoon and evening game drives, with the added benefit of off-road driving for close-up wildlife encounters. Depending on water levels, activities may also include mokoro excursions, boating and fishing, providing a wonderful contrast to land-based game viewing. Walking safaris can also be arranged, allowing guests to experience the Delta from a different perspective, guided by knowledgeable trackers. Scenic helicopter flights can be arranged at an additional cost and are highly recommended for a breathtaking aerial view of the Okavango’s intricate waterways.

Your guide will take time to understand your interests and tailor each day’s activities accordingly, ensuring a personalised and rewarding safari experience throughout your stay.

Day 1 - Kwara Camp

On arrival into Maun Airport you will be met by a representative and assisted onto your flight to Kwara, a flight of about 45 minutes. You guide will be waiting to meet and transfer you to camp, a game drive of about 20 minutes, depending on sightings along the way.

Kwara Camp is beautifully set within a private concession of the northern Okavango, surrounded by a mix of waterways, floodplains and open savannah that attract wildlife throughout the day. The tents are spacious and thoughtfully designed, each raised on wooden decking with a shaded outdoor seating area where you can relax and take in the surrounding bush. Inside, the style is classic and comfortable, with a large bed draped in mosquito netting, warm wooden furnishings and a bright, open-plan layout that leads through to an ensuite bathroom with indoor shower and freestanding bath. A peaceful and welcoming retreat to unwind between activities

After some refreshments and having been introduced to the camp and team you will set off on your afternoon activity, perhaps taking to the water to explore the surrounding waterways or a game drive to see more of the concession.

Your guide will discuss the area and your choice of activities with you and plan your days with you to ensure you make the most of your time in the Okavango.

With all activities you will make a stop at a scenic spot to toast the setting sun with a drink and some snacks before returning to camp as its gets dark, where a roaring fire and dinner await.

Day 2 - Kwara Camp

The next morning you wake early with your choice of hot drink delivered to your tent, followed by a light breakfast. Then you are off on your first safari activity, as agreed with your guide the day before.

Mornings are a great time to track the movements of the night before when predators are most active, so perhaps you will head out in the 4x4 and see if you can catch some of the action before the animals retreat to the shade. Alternatively you may enjoy a guide walk in the cool of the morning, a chance to learn more about this unique and beautiful eco-system and for your guide to share his tracking skills.

Morning activities last around 4 hours, around half way you will stop for a coffee break and some snacks, returning to camp around 10-11am for a hearty brunch and a few hours to relax. No activities run in the heat of the day when most animals rest in the shade- as do you! A great chance to enjoy your incredible room.

Meeting at around 3.30pm for high tea you enjoy some light refreshments and then head out on your afternoon activity- perhaps this time exploring the waterways which are truly beautiful at sunset and attract many animals who come to drink at the end of the day. This is a truly peaceful end to the day.

Over dinner in camp you will plan your final day on safari with your guide.

Day 3 - Kwara Camp

The next morning it another early start, and after a quick breakfast you set off for your final full day in the Okavango. Once again you will do an early morning and late afternoon activity, with a few hours between to relax at camp.

For those interested in a scenic helicopter flight over the Okavango, this is the perfect time to do so. This is a truly amazing experience and really showcases the beautiful and diversity of the Okavango. Especially for those on shorter itineraries, a helicopter ride is a real highlight.

Day 4 - End of Safari

The time for your flight to Maun will be finalised the day before and your guide will advise you what time you will be leaving camp. Time permitting you will still enjoy a morning activity though this may be a little shorter than usual.

The flight will always be schedule to connect with any onward travel arrangements. Depending on the time of departure, as discussed with your guide, you will enjoy on final morning activity and brunch before bidding farewell to the Okavango. The flight to Maun will take approximately 25 minutes, depending on stops along the way. On arrival a representative will meet you to ensure you connect to your onward travel arrangements.
