Selinda Camp

One of Botswana’s most exclusive camps, the recently rebuilt Selinda Camp lies in the pristine paradise of the vast 130,000 hectare Selinda reserve between the Okavango and Chobe. One of Botswana’s smallest camps- with just 3 spacious guest tents in the main camp - creating an intimate yet impressive safari experience. Selinda Camp offers a highly exclusive and luxurious safari experience in one of the most scenic and untouched areas of Botswana.

Selinda Camp lies in the heart of the the Selinda Reserve, which has become especially well known through various National Geographic films made by the camp owners Beverley and Derek Joubert, including the “Birth of a Pride” which recounts the trials and fortunes of one of the area’s resident Lion prides. With the diversity of environments, brings a range of possible safari activities including game drives (morning, afternoon and evening) boating and guided walks. Water levels, game movements and the weather are all important factors taken into consideration by knowledgeable and seasoned guides.

The new Selinda Camp has been thoughtfully designed to embrace different cultures and peoples – with the spirit of safari and adventure at the core. As unique is the camp, so is the experience to be found here. Regular sightings of the resident Selinda Lion pride, often to be seen stalking the plentiful antelope. Elephant in their hundreds, Buffalo in great herds and the intriguing and characterful African Wild Dog. All to be found in the most isolated and exclusive in the African wilderness.

There are 3 incredibly spacious and spoiling tented villas. Each beautifully designed tent sits below cooling thatch and is individually themed though all feature en-suite bathrooms, a private veranda complete with hammocks and private swimming pool.

Entirely separate to the camp is The Selinda Suite, a highly exclusive and luxurious villa for those looking for the ultimate privacy on safari. The suite runs like a completely private camp with its own private entrance, vehicle, guide, chef and host. The suite consists of two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a spacious lounge and deck complete with pool and sumptuous areas for relaxing and soaking up the beautiful views.

The area consists of immensely rich and diverse biozomes: flooded plains – reminiscent of the Okavango – wide open grasslands, canopied riverine forest fringing the Selinda system and spillway. Channels and lagoons rising and falling dependent on incoming waters from Angola and local rainfall. These varied habitats are a haven for many of Africa’s best known animals and birds.

The safari experience is good year round but best in the drier months. The enormous herds of Buffalo, hundreds and hundreds of Elephant including the breeding herds with females and infants are awe-inspiring. Incredible interaction between predator and prey unfolds before you. Some unusual and exciting species – including the African Wild Dog, Roan and Sable Antelope, Red Lechwe as well as familiar favourites including Giraffe, Kudu, Impala, Zebra and Warthog.
