Set on a game rich private concession in the south eastern Okavango, Chitabe Lediba is the smaller, family friendly sister camp to Chitabe, ideal for small groups and families. Chitabe Lediba is situated a few hundred metres from the main Chitabe camp, on the other side of the island and benefits from the same fantastic game viewing opportunities as the main Chitabe camp. This area is known for its high concentration of predators, game drives here are some of the most exciting in the Okavango.
A dining area, lounge and pool have great views over the surrounding floodplains and a small waterhole, or ‘Lediba’, which was once a lagoon, and which is a fantastic attraction for the game and birdlife that comes to drink during the day. Chitabe Lediba has a small curio shop selling safari clothing and traditional Okavango crafts and baskets made by the local staff. Take a tour ‘back of house’ to see the solar farm and understand how the camp strives to minimise its impact on the environment.
Chitabe Lediba consists of five spacious and luxuriously appointed Meru-style tents that have en-suite facilities. Each room also has an outdoor shower, which overlooks the floodplain. The two family units have adjoining bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms. All five spacious tents are built on raised decks and have sliding glass doors and a veranda.
Morning and afternoon game drives at Chitabe Lediba explore the Chitabe concession which benefits from its situation at the meeting point of the Kalahari desert habitat and the wetlands of the Okavango Delta, with good game all year round. It is a dry area and all activities are land-based. The evening game drive returns to camp after dark so that guests have the opportunity of spotting the shyer nocturnal animals such as genet, civet, serval, porcupine and possibly aardwolf. Wildlife seen on game drives include elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and cheetah. Wild dog are also sometimes found in the area. Guests should also see zebra, tsessebe, giraffe, kudu and impala. Two hides can be used as a “sleep out” experience as well as a game viewing platform during the day.
At Okavango Delta Explorations we specialise in crafting safaris to this unique ecosystem.
