Kiri Camp

The latest edition to the Machaba Safaris collection, Kiri Camp in the Okavango Delta opened in June 2022. Like Gomoti Plains Camp, it lies in the NG32 private concession and offers the same superb and exclusive game viewing experience. Kiri Camp is a stylish and luxurious camp with views overlooking the Kiri channel offering game drives and mokoro rides.

Kiri Camp lies about 20 kms south west of Chief’s Island, in an area which abounds with wildlife, and is particularly well known for the exciting lion and buffalo exchanges. Wild dog are also found in this area. Being set on a private concession means guests will enjoy a more exclusive safari, as well benefit from off-roading when needed, as well as thrilling night drives.

Shaded by the outstretched branches of imposing Jackalberry trees, Kiri Camp, much like its sister camps, endeavours to camouflage itself within the natural environment while posing minimum human impact on the surrounding sensitive ecosystems. Style and comfort is not compromised however, and the artist impressions of the new camp suggest this will soon become some of the most popular and stylish camps in the Okavango.

Machaba Safaris has an excellent track record in running camps with strong attention to detail and Kiri camp lives up to this, whether as an excellent addition to their circuit as well as on its own.

Intimate Kiri Camp exhibits just 10 eco-friendly spacious luxury tents, two of which are ideal for families. The central guest lounge and dining areas, further enhanced by attractive wooden decks, are accessed from the rooms by natural pathways and a central firepit area is located in proximity to a simple, stylish bar area. This environmentally friendly, solar -powered camp owns a sparkling pool to be enjoyed at leisure by guests seeking reprieve from the heat of the African Sun.

Each chic en-suite tent boasts a private, elevated viewing deck with unparalleled views of this all -encompassing natural paradise and showcases a skilful blend of style, comfort and a keen awareness of sustainable resource utilization. Availability of hot and cold water and flushing toilets add to the luxury element of Kiri Camp.

Teeming with diverse wildlife, this particular concession means that game drives at Kiri Camp list lions, buffalo, hyaenas and the African Wild Dog as popular sightings. With the added benefit of operating night drive excursions, guests experience plenty of great photographic opportunities to capture these predators and a multitude of other nocturnal species on camera.

Guests at Kiri Camp also have a chance to do walking safaris with professionally trained rangers who are keen to share their seemingly limitless knowledge of this unique environment. This is a very different experience to game drives. Here your senses will truly come alive as you walk through the wilderness – every sense alert – you are fully plugged in to the bush sounds, smells, signs….you learn what it is to be a good guide, to read the bush and animals around you. A superb experience.

When water levels allow, a guided mokoro trip is a fantastic way to experience the Delta. A chance to see this beautiful environment from a very different perspective.

Kiri Camp is a mere 20 – minute flight away from Maun and a 60- minute flight from Kasane Airport.

For those interested in visiting Chobe, we recommend the sister camp, Ngoma Safari Lodge, which makes a wonderful combination with Kiri Camp in the Okavango Delta.
