MmaTsebe Tented Camp is a small, owner-run safari camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, set in the wildlife-rich Khwai area along the Mbudi River. Offering excellent value, strong guiding and a relaxed, authentic atmosphere, it provides access to both Khwai and Moremi Game Reserve. Expect rewarding game viewing, varied landscapes and a genuine safari experience in one of the Delta’s most reliable wildlife regions.
MmaTsebe Tented Camp sits in the Khwai Community Concession, an area known for its excellent wildlife and proximity to Moremi Game Reserve.. The Mbudi River attracts a steady flow of game, particularly in the dry season, while the surrounding mix of floodplains, woodland and riverine habitat supports strong predator sightings year-round. This is a genuinely rewarding safari area, offering varied landscapes and consistently good game viewing without the crowds.
This is a camp which really echoes the atmosphere and experience of the original Okavango camps- and offers unbeatable value. With just nine en-suite tents, the camp offers a relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere and a strong focus on authentic bush living. Each tent looks onto the Mbudi River and is equipped with mosquito nets, fans and charging facilities and all enjoy secluded settings within the forest, ensuring a peaceful and comfortable stay. The decked main area, with plunge pool, has views onto the river where you´ll enjoy your Botswana fusion meal under the trees or night´s sky. Wifi is only accessible from the wifi lounge, set back from the main area, with big comfortable sofas and a large desk, guests can get in touch friends and family back home.
Activities include game drives (maximum of 7 people) and mokoro excursions on the Mbudi River (water levels permitting). At an additional cost, they offer a full-day trip deep into the Moremi Game Reserve including a boating safari —returning either by road or, for a truly memorable experience, by scenic helicopter flight.
MmaTsebe Camp was named after the famous female leopard who roamed the Khwai and Moremi area. She successfully raised numerous cubs and was known for her skilful hunting during the day.
It’s a secluded and comfortable base from which to explore one of Botswana’s most wildlife-rich areas. Khwai´s game sighting consistently excellent, with lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, elephants, and an abundance of plains game regularly seen in the area. Every season brings something new, and the diversity of terrain ensures a rich and ever-changing safari experience.
MmaTsebe Tented Camp is best suited to travellers looking for a well-located, genuinely good-value safari without compromising on guiding or wildlife. It works particularly well as part of a broader Botswana itinerary, and we often recommend combining it with its sister camp, Tumani Tented Camp, just an hour and a half’s game drive into the Mbabe region, where the landscape and ecosystem feel noticeably different. For those prioritising strong game viewing and a relaxed, owner-run atmosphere, it remains a very solid and rewarding choice.
At Okavango Delta Explorations we specialise in crafting safaris to this unique ecosystem.
