Nkasa Linyanti

Nkasa Linyanti is a new camp from Natural Selection opening May 2026 in Namibia’s remote Nkasa Rupara National Park, where the Kwando and Linyanti Rivers meet. Set within a private concession the camp offers exclusive access to one of southern Africa’s richest wetland ecosystems. Nkasa Linyanti will feature just six tented rooms and offer a range of land and water activities to explore this much underrated area.

In Namibia’s far northeast, where the Zambezi region meets Botswana and Zambia, Nkasa Rupara National Park offers a quieter, greener side of the country. Shaped by the Kwando and Linyanti Rivers, it’s a patchwork of wetlands, woodlands and open floodplains—an ideal setting for wildlife and one of the region’s most peaceful and little-known safari destinations.

At the heart of this watery wilderness is Nkasa Linyanti, the only camp on Nkasa Island. Set within a private concession bordered by water on two sides, the camp lies in a key conservation corridor connecting four countries—Namibia, Botswana, Angola and Zambia. With no fences, wildlife moves freely across the landscape, and game viewing is both diverse and dynamic.

Nkasa Rupara is a stronghold for rare and elusive species. The park harbours Namibia’s largest concentration of buffalo, along with healthy populations of elephant, lion and leopard. It’s one of the best places in the country to spot African wild dog, and sightings of red lechwe, roan, sable antelope, and even sitatunga are possible among the reeds and floodplains. Plains game—wildebeest, kudu, impala and zebra—move through the grasslands, keeping predators close behind.

Birdlife here is exceptional, with over 430 species recorded (making it the top birding destination in Namibia). It’s a key destination for twitchers hoping to tick off the likes of Pel’s fishing owl, wattled crane, black crake and a host of kingfishers, herons and bee-eaters that thrive in this wetland ecosystem.

Opening in May 2026, Nkasa Linyanti will offer just six elevated canvas tents—including two designed for families—each shaded by leadwood and sausage trees and positioned to make the most of the sweeping views across the Linyanti floodplains. Interiors are simple and elegant, with soft natural tones, woven textures, and mosquito-draped beds. Both indoor and outdoor showers invite a refreshing pause between activities.

At the centre of camp, an open-plan lounge and dining area flows out to a shaded deck, a sparkling swimming pool, and a firepit perfect for unwinding under the stars. Meals are often served outdoors, beneath the trees or by candlelight, and the atmosphere aims to be relaxed and unpretentious.

Activities reflect the diversity of this landscape. Game drives (day or night) are offered year round while seasonal walking safaris as well as boating and mokoro safaris on the Linyanti River are also offered from around April-October. Cultural excursions are offered for those interested in learning more about the local communities.

Nkasa Linyanti is more than just another safari camp—it’s part of a long-term conservation vision. Founded in partnership with conservationists Brent and Chantelle Cook, the project helps protect a key wildlife corridor and supports efforts to keep migration routes open across the greater Kavango-Zambezi region. Powered entirely by solar and designed to tread lightly on the land, the camp reflects a commitment to sustainability as much as safari.

Nkasa Linyanti is located in the Zambezi region of Namibia, on the border with Botswana. Currently the camp can be accessed by air and road. For Air access- Visitors will first fly to Katima Mulilo (from Windhoek or Maun with FlyNamibia on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Or daily if booking a private charter. From Katima Mulilo guests can fly to Lianshulu airstrip, the nearest airstrip to Nkasa Linyanti camp where they will be met and transferred by to camp.

Road Transfers are also available- from Katima Mulilo, Kasane and Victoria Falls. Guests will be transferred in comfortable vehciles to Sangwali where they will be met by a guide from Nkasa Linyanti who will then transfer them to Nkasa Rupara National Park and onto the camp as a game drive. For those interested, self drive is possible as far as the park entrance where the vehicles will be left at the ranger station and then guests will be transferred in game drive vehicles to camp. Note that vehicles must be 4×4 with high clearance.

The camp will be a perfect blend of authenticity and comfort and we believe it will combine well with similar camps in the Natural Selection portfolio such as Little Sable and Mokolowane.
