Nxabega Under Canvas opened in March 2026 and is one newest camps in the &Beyond group. Inspired by the elegant mobile safaris of the 1920s,  just three spacious guest tents Nxabega Under Canvas creates an intimate and highly personalised safari experience. Designed to immerse guests in the surrounding wilderness without compromising comfort, the tents feature solar-powered lighting, plug points, ceiling fans and ensuite bathrooms with double vanities, double showers, flushing toilets and hot running water. Note, laundry service is not provided here, but powder is provided the tents.

In addition, you´ll find a high-quality pair of binoculars in your tent to use during your stay! Insect-proof screening and Wi-Fi connectivity provide additional comfort, while the classic safari styling ensures the focus remains firmly on the natural surroundings. Further so as tents are connected to the main area with simple sand pathways through the trees.

Main Area and Dining

The camp embraces a relaxed, traditional camping atmosphere with a small and welcoming central tented guest area alongside the fire pit where meals and drinks are enjoyed between activities. Rather than building elaborate structures, nature takes centre stage in Nxabega Under Canvas as it was designed around a group of large leadwood trees.

All 6 guests share the table and dine together under the stars. The emphasis is on spending time immersed in the bush, sharing stories around the campfire and enjoying the simple pleasures that have long defined classic African safaris. The intimate nature of the camp allows for highly personalised service.

Location and Access

Nxabega Under Canvas is located within the 25,000-hectare Pom Pom Concession (NG 27A) on the western edge of the Okavango Delta´s Moremi Game Reserve. The concession offers a diverse mix of mopane woodland, seasonal floodplains, palm-dotted islands and riverine forest, creating varied habitats that support an impressive range of wildlife throughout the year. The private concession status allows activities such as evening drives and guided walking safaris, not possible in national parks.

Guests reach Nxabega Under Canvas by light aircraft, a 25 minute direct flight from Maun, followed by a 15-minute drive to the lodge.

Activities and Seasonality

Safari activities focus primarily on exploring the concession by vehicle and on foot. Morning, afternoon and evening game drives allow guests to experience the area’s rich wildlife diversity, while guided walking safaris offer a more immersive perspective of the bush. When water levels permit in the flood months, mokoro excursions provide a quieter way to explore the Delta’s channels and floodplains, and fishing is available from March to December if water level allow. The variety of activities makes Nxabega Under Canvas a strong choice for travellers seeking a balanced safari combining both land and water experiences in flood season.

Wildlife

The Pom Pom Concession (NG 27A) is known for its excellent wildlife density and diverse habitats. Nxabega Under Canvas meaning “Place of the Giraffe,” this camp is well named, in addition elephant are particularly common during the dry season, zebra, impala, red lechwe and a variety of smaller species are regularly encountered. The area is also notable for supporting less commonly seen antelope such as roan and sable. Birdlife is prolific, with riverine forests providing habitat for numerous species, including the sought-after Pel’s Fishing Owl. The combination of varied terrain and year-round wildlife makes the concession one of the most rewarding safari areas in the Okavango Delta.

Families

Nxabega Under Canvas has no family tent, although welcomes children aged 12 years and older. It should be noted that children under 18 years of age must share a tent with a parent or guardian. With just three tents and a strong focus on immersive safari activities, the camp is particularly well suited to families with older, safari-minded children who will appreciate the intimate bush experience.
