The latest edition to the Great Plains portfolio, Sitatunga Private Island is due to open in July 2023. Set deep in the beautiful waterways of the Northern Okavango, Sitatunga Private Island aims to offer a more tranquil safari, with quintessential Okavango water activities such as mokoro rides and boating. Promising the same excellent safari standards delivered by their other famous camps we are very excited about this latest camp.
Sitatunga Private Island Camp and Suite will be a small camp with just 3 units; one family unit and 2 other suites. Taking a maximum of 8 guests at any time, is an extremely exclusive camp with an intimate setting on a pristine private island in Botswana’s Okavango Delta- the perfect peaceful retreat.
The camp will follow the same beautiful style of all the Great Plains camps, with elegant but understated luxury, authentic and tasteful décor and excellent service. Sitatunga Private Island Camp’s style will commemorate that of the great fishing cultures of the Okavango. The structure design is inspired by the fishing basket, nestled in the thick ebony forest canopy and built in the same high standards of the other Great Plains camps such as Zarafa, Selinda and Duba Plains- and certainly a visit to these camps would complement the itinerary.
Sitatunga Private Island Camp is named after the beautiful and elusive sitatunga, a rare swamp-dwelling antelope specially adapted to living in these aquatic conditions. Given the location deep amongst the glistening waterways of the Okavango activities at Sitatunga Private Island will likely be mainly water-based with boating, mekoro excursions. Continuing with the slow safari style, walking will likely be offered on the islands. An Okavango water safari offers the chance to escape the buzz of the 4×4 game vehicles which are the foundation of most safaris, and instead to connect more deeply with the stunning environment around you with more peaceful activities such as walking, mokoro and boating.

Duba Plains Camp
Duba Plains Camp is one of Botswana’s top luxury camps set in a particularly beautiful corner of the Okavango. Selinda Camp

Zarafa Camp
Zarafa Camp is one of the finest camps in Botswana, occupying a stunning position overlooking a permanent lagoon on the vast and exclusive Selinda Reserve. In this pristine 130,000 hectare reserve, between the Okavango and Chobe, some of Botswana’s most iconic species abound. This is a very special camp, Botswana’s first Relais & Chateaux property, with just four achingly stylish suites, it is an intimate and exclusive safari experience.
Mombo Camp
Mombo is a flagship Botswana camp, one of the finest in Africa, offering superb game viewing and an extremely luxurious safari. With a prime location on Chief’s Island and some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the Okavango, Mombo is top of the wish list for many. Rebuilt in 2018, Mombo reopened as an even more luxurious camp though maintaining the essence of the original Mombo which so many have come to love.
Vumbura Plains Camp
Vumbura Plains Camp is premier Okavango camp with a stylish contemporary design. The 14 luxurious stilted rooms are divided into two camps and connected by wooden walkways.
