Jao Reserve Camps In the Okavango Delta
Jao Reserve is a small, family-run safari company with a long history in the Okavango Delta. The Kays family has been involved in the region for generations, and today the family continues to run the company and its six camps across the 60,000-hectare Jao Reserve.
Jao Camp is the flagship and the most luxurious of the six. The other camps – Tubu Tree, Little Tubu, Kwetsani, Jacana and Pelo – each have their own character, setting and level of comfort, ranging from intimate and understated to more luxurious and highly refined.
The camps are spread across the vast reserve in the north-western Okavango, encompassing permanent waterways, seasonal floodplains and drier areas. They can be combined within the reserve, allowing guests to experience different areas and contrasting styles of safari without travelling between separate concessions. This is particularly worthwhile during the peak flood months, typically from around May to September, when the rising waters create greater opportunities for exploring by mokoro and boat alongside land-based activities.
Jacana Camp
Small, relaxed and characterful, Jacana is a lovely little camp with a fresh style. Hidden on a tropical palm island, the camp is utterly private. Jacana is, for most of the year, completely surrounded by water and is a lovely contrast to camps whose focus is big-game and open plains. Water activities are the mainstay here; enjoy the superb birdlife and aquatic splendour of a true Delta experience.
Pelo Camp
Pelo Camp, meaning ‘heart’, takes its name from the distinct heart-shaped island located within the Jao Concession on which it is built. Pelo is a rustic camp offering a remote, genuine and adventurous safari experience. Situated deep in the Okavango Delta and lying in a true wetland area, discreet game viewing and being at one with nature is what makes Pelo special.
Kwetsani Camp
Suspended high in the tree line of a palm-fringed island, Kwetsani Camp has a wonderfully atmospheric setting in the Jao Reserve. Completely rebuilt in 2026, the camp retains its distinctive treehouse character, with five spacious suites making the most of the fabulous views of the floodplains. Sophisticated yet understated, it offers a classic Delta experience with both land and water activities, the balance between them changing with the annual flood.
Jao Camp
Jao Camp is one of the Okavango Delta’s flagship luxury camps, set within the private Jao Reserve in the north-western Delta. Surrounded by waterways, floodplains and islands, it offers a varied and visually striking setting that changes dramatically with the seasons. With just seven suites and two villas, it remains intimate, while the two-bedroom villas include a private vehicle, guide, chef and butler for a more tailored stay.
Little Tubu
A small luxurious camp on game-rich Hunda island with only three tents: experiencing the Delta doesn’t get more intimate than Little Tubu. Set deep within the large 600kms private concession, Little Tubu offers varied landscapes and activities. Winding, wooden platforms create a treehouse atmosphere while the sleep-out deck offers the chance of an adventurous night beneath the stars.
Tubu Tree Camp
Built into the trees, Tubu Tree Camp has a charming tree-house atmosphere with a series of high wooden walkways connecting the rooms and main areas, with fabulous views of the floodplains. Tube Tree is situated on the famous Jao Reserve, along the western edge of Hundu Island which offers the best game viewing on the reserve. Its excellent location allows access to both wet and dry habitats showcasing full splendour of the Okavango Delta.
