Little Mombo is a smaller, more intimate version of its famous sister camp, and boasts just four luxurious tents. Renowned as “the Place of Plenty,” due to the myriad of species and large concentration of game, Little Mombo is one of Africa’s most sought after luxury camps. Connected to Mombo via a raised boardwalk, the camp enjoys its own facilities, including a dining area, boma, kitchen, lounge and swimming pool. A first-class safari experience.
Little Mombo is situated in Africa’s premier game viewing area, Chief’s Island in the Moremi Game Reserve and shares this corner of the island with its sister camp Mombo Camp. Rebuilt in 2018, Little Mombo is perfect for small groups and allows guests to explore this prolific wildlife area in luxurious comfort.
This is one of Africa’s finest safari camps and considerable effort has been put into crafting accommodation and facilities which befit Little Mombo’s magnificent location. The four spacious tents are linked with elevated wooden walkways and offer lovely vistas across the plains. A spacious outside private deck with a comfortable sala (outside pavilion) creates a particularly lovely spot to relax between activities and watch the comings and goings around camp. A sofa safari of sorts! Inside offers even more space with a large and luxurious bed and another seating area. Further along the tent is a large fully equipped bathroom with two showers inside and a further shower outside.
The main areas are equally well designed and offers a stylish retreat at any time of day to relax and enjoy the views. There are separate dining and sitting areas and large comfortable sofas. First class cuisine completes the safari experience at this impressive property. A small plunge pool and shaded pavilion area provides a perfect spot to retreat from the heat of the day.
The camp is located at the divergence of the main Okavango River into two channels. Being extremely fertile, the area where Mombo Camp is situated claims some of the highest densities and diversity of wildlife in Southern Africa. Long known to the local people, the Yei and Xaniqwe, the area was named ‘’Mombo’’- the Yei word for “the place of plenty.” Ably complementing the extraordinary game viewing, the camp itself has majestic views of a scenic floodplain from beneath huge African Ebony and Sycamore Fig trees. The areas boasts large and consistent numbers of plains game as well as good predator numbers – and is one of the best places in Botswana to see rhino.
Game drives at Little Mombo are conducted in Land Rovers seating seven guests at most and take advantage of the prolific wildlife to which these rich floodplains are home. Guests are able to enjoy viewing huge herds of plains game as well as great predator interaction. Lions and leopards are routinely seen on game drives and occasionally from the camp itself. Chief’s Island has recently seen the re-introduction of both black and white rhino with this being one of the only areas in Botswana where these magnificent beasts can be seen in their natural habitat.
It should be noted that as Little Mombo is in the Moremi Game Reserve, night drives are not possible.
Little Mombo benefits from having a hide some twenty minutes from camp. This allows guests to spend time simply observing wildlife from a comfortable and well – equipped vantage point and is ideal for photography.
