Lying between the wetlands of the Okavango Delta and the deserts of the Kalahari, Meno a Kwena - “teeth of the crocodile’’ - offers an interesting safari experience from a semi-arid environment, with starlit sleepouts and seasonal river safaris along the lively Boteti River. This is an affordable, friendly and down to earth camp, appealing to those looking for something different. Lovely landscapes feature a myriad of wildlife from dazzles of zebras to desert- adapted elephant.

A charming little camp, Meno a Kwena is rich in character with a wonderful location, perched on the cliffs overlooking the Boteti River. The camp borders the Makgadikgadi National Park and is surrounded by the semi – arid Kalahari Desert. The Boteti river draws wildlife to it throughout the year. Ingrained in history as a hunter’s retreat, many an explorer made use of this camp during daring expeditions evident in the unusual artefacts that depict a time-honoured lodge.

Meno a Kwena has ten simply styled tents incorporate a variety of textiles and locally sourced materials and two interleading family tents are suitable for guests accompanied by children. Furnishings are simple but comfortable – the wonderful views over the river steal the show. All tents are en-suite with indoor and outdoor showers. There are two family units, which can each sleep up to 5 people.

Enjoy a sofa safari from the heightened lounge and dining areas where hearty meals are served. A cooling dip in the swimming pool is enhanced by the presence of various game species dotting the riverbanks below. Comfortable day beds are available for relaxing between activities.

Activities at Meno a Kwena include 4×4 game drives, seasonal boat cruises along the Botieti (water levels permitting), sleep outs under the stars and cultural experiences, bushman walks and village visits. Daytime trips into Nxai Pan National Park present a different Mopane woodland landscape, home to the grass covered fossil lakebed otherwise known as Nxai Pan.

Stampeding herds of zebra and wildebeest mark the arrival of Africa’s second largest migration across the Makgadikgadi Pans, alongside a variety of other antelope , their journey finishing as the pans dry out at the Boteti river itself .Predators can be found here too, lion, plains-loving cheetah and the ever elusive leopard. African Wild dog make appearances from time to time and the distinctive wail of the black-backed jackal can be heard as evening closes in.

Should water levels permit, a cruise to view game along the riverbanks can be organised and a unique floating game viewing hide is an ideal location for photographic enthusiasts to hone their skills.
